IMG_0391We invite you to join us this week to watch the Winni Playhouse Teen Ensemble's Production of The Little Shop of Horrors. Tickets are still available for purchase and can be found at www.WinniPlayhouse.org. Showings are December 8, 9, 10 and 11th.

Main Street Dental has been a long time supporter of the performing arts but what makes this performance particularly interesting is that Adam Messinger plays the villinous role of Dr. Orin Scrivello DDS. It should be a lot of fun to see the interpretation of this role as Adam is a sharp talent and his father Dr. John Messinger DDS is of course, our lead dentist at Main Street Dental. Ummm... We hope you all realize that Dr. Messinger is not THAT type of dentist! Hope to see you and have a Happy and Safe Holiday Season!

Toys4TotsDonations

What's on your holiday Gift list this year? We were able to put together a wish list pretty quickly here. Did you know that there are children around our own communities who won't know the joy of opening a gift this season? Main Street Dental and Toys for Tots have partnered to make sure that children in Plymouth, Meredith and the Lakes Region communities have something special to open during the holidays. Making a Toys for Tots donation is simple; just bring a new, unopened toy to Main Street Dental at 107 Main Street in Plymouth. We have a large collection bin located in our front lobby. With your help, a child can have the joy of a gift and know the confidence and hope that comes from kindness. Thank you for your support and generosity!

Many dental practices in New Hampshire have begun using "Same Day Crown" services through CEREC. After considerable research, Main Street Dental opted to replace its CEREC machine with a more precise and user friendly system, the E4D. We were able to sit down with Dr. Messinger one afternoon to talk to him about crowns and some of the things that set the E4D apart from other "Same Day" systems.

Main Street Dental cares about the families in the Lake’s Region. To raise awareness about the importance of oral health, we have provided free materials from the American Dental Association to download so families and teachers can make learning about dental health fun children and provide them with valuable interaction.

January ushered in a lot of government issued change pertaining to fluoride. The primary activity which occurred was the Department of Health and Human Services decreasing its recommended optimal community water fluoridation levels. While many critics would prefer fluoride use to be eradicated all together, there continues to be a lot of question and apprehension regarding the use of fluoride. To get a better perspective on fluoride we sat down with Main Street Dental’s Dr. John Messinger who is not only a well respected general dentist but also holds a PhD in BioChemistry.

Q: Hello Dr. Messinger! Thanks for sitting down with us. A lot of people are pretty passionate and opposed to fluoride. Why is there so much controversy surrounding this topic?

A: The controversy is actually to be expected. Anytime there is a matter of public health policy people react strongly, often with emotion and suspicion. There is a tremendous amount of pressure and responsibility placed on those who research and make health policy.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved bottled water companies to claim the health benefits of drinking fluoridated water. Fluoridated water containing an amount of 0.6 milligrams to 1 milligram per liter of water may now make use of this health claim on its labeling. This FDA allowance will be sure to open new opportunities and marketing techniques for bottling companies as well as debate from fluoride critics.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has changed its recommendation for optimal community water fluoridation level one part per million to 0.7 parts per million. This adjustment will provide an effective level of fluoride to reduce the incidence of tooth decay while minimizing the rate of fluorosis in the general population.

Like most matters of public health policy, community water fluoridation is a topic of passionate debate. American Dental Association President, Dr. Raymond Gist DDS stated on record the following: “Dentistry has succeeded in detecting and preventing disease better than any other area of health care. Water fluoridation is one of our most potent weapons in disease prevention, and we want as many people as possible to have the benefits of this simple, safe, inexpensive and proven health care measure.”

Caring for others is not something that takes place just inside the doors of Main Street Dental or during working hours alone. Many of our staff can be found volunteering or leading efforts to help others throughout New Hampshire and abroad. Most recently, Office Manager Kerry Maloney started a localized effort to help abandoned pets and those people committed to helping them find new homes. Kerry admits that starting the pet supply drive came from her desire to immediately rescue a pet herself but she recognized it was not the appropriate choice for her right now. When asked about the level of expectation for this charitable effort Kerry offered this, “I know we can’t save everyone and everything ourselves but that doesn’t mean we can’t try.”
